Why you'll love your Capital One coworkers
Culture at Capital One is rooted in putting people first. Our associates embrace connectivity, work collaboratively and share information, time and knowledge with each other. Meeting new people, getting involved and seeking diverse perspectives helps make our people, work and impact stronger—all while creating deeper community connections and cultivating belonging.
We asked a few associates about their community experience at Capital One.
Creating moments of connection
Here, associates can meet new people and build a lasting and invested network of peers, mentors, leaders and partners, all thanks to the vibrant culture and supportive associate community.
“Capital One hosted an e-games tournament for tech associates, which allowed me to connect with coworkers, have a little friendly competition and win prizes. It helped us become better teammates based on our shared interest in gaming. It’s a hobby that brings a lot of people together.” - Suleiman, senior software engineer in Financial Technology
“My team is the coolest. We have a meeting every single week for 30 minutes called “Connect.” It's simply about us being real people with each other—it's not work related at all. All we do is talk about life. It really grounds us as people and helps us have a greater appreciation of the team that we're on.” - Taylor, principal conversation designer for Enterprise Product and Experience
“At Capital One, every single person I've met is open and honest about their home life. If someone is having a problem at home, say their child is sick, everyone talks about it transparently so it creates this culture that it's OK to bring your whole self to work. It's OK to be transparent and let people know when you're hurting because at the end of the day, we are a community and we do support each other.” - Snigdha, Management Rotation Program (MRP) associate
Fostering a culture of open learning
Our passionate, talented and smart people invest in themselves and each other. Associates work collaboratively, sharing information, time and knowledge with each other and seek feedback and inputs from others, making us and our work stronger. Here, our associates are encouraged to bring their bold curiosity and unique perspectives.
“Capital One gives me a chance to put my tech skills to use on a fun team. There’s an opportunity to share new things that you learn, and you’re always able to contribute new tech ideas and new concepts.” - Kamari, software engineer for Tech College
“It’s a very open culture and everyone is open to learning. If you find someone who specializes in a topic you’re interested in, like data science, you can message them and arrange a chat to learn more about what they do.” - Emily, software engineer in Financial Technology
“At Capital One, everybody wants to come together and work really hard, but also have fun. Being on a tech team means fast-paced work. You’re always learning and building great products. I always feel like I belong, because everyone’s opinions are included.” - Lori, senior software engineer in Internal Platforms
Inclusivity and belonging through our Business Resource Groups (BRGs)
Capital One’s BRGs help associates establish deeper community connections at work, create networking opportunities, and invest in associate growth and development. From BRG-sponsored hackathons and volunteer work, to mentorship and sharpening their skills, our associates upskill, get involved and give back.
“I joined Hispanics in Tech and helped to organize our first new member welcoming event. It was very casual and very fun. I’m pretty new myself, so I had a lot of advice to give. It was really cool to see the work we put into the event pay off.” - Christian, associate software engineer in the Technology Development Program (TDP)
“I am a chapter leader of our BRG Salute here in Plano. We work really hard to be an advocate for the military employees and families that work here. We think it's very important that we have a community here that can support them and lend a hand.” - Meredith, senior manager in Support Operations
“I’m involved in Out Front, which is the BRG for LGBTQ+ associates and allies. That's been a great way to really feel like I belong in a community. I never feel the need to hide a part of myself when I come to work. Capital One just really empowers and encourages everyone to come to work who you are and as comfortable as you want to be.” - Ralph, senior associate software engineer in External Affairs
