Learning and leading in Mexico City
When Ximena left her role as a project manager to pivot into the learning and development space, she was following her heart.
She’s always loved learning, and when she realized she could funnel that passion toward helping others grow, too, she knew she wanted to make that her career.
Then she found Capital One Mexico City and knew it was meant to be. Today, she’s a principal learning associate, overseeing the onboarding experience for associates joining the growing teams at Capital One’s new global office. She spends her days helping others gain confidence, build skills and settle into new roles once they join. Her curiosity-driven growth mindset is something she lives (and shares!) every day.
A culture of compassion and confidence
When Ximena first joined Capital One, she didn’t expect to feel seen and supported so quickly. An early moment showed her she was in the right place. “I had to take a few days off during my first week,” she said. “I was nervous to ask. I didn’t know how my manager would respond.”
Instead of judgment, she got empathy. Her manager told her not to worry and asked how he could help while she was out.
“I felt this huge sense of relief to have such personal flexibility,” she said. “It made me think: Wow, this is the kind of culture I get to be part of, and that’s amazing.”
That culture of support continued well past her first week. As she adjusted to her new role, Ximena found a mentor in a leader who took her under their wing and helped her grow. “She wasn’t assigned to train me, but she took the time to walk me through how I could make an impact in Mexico,” Ximena said. “She didn’t just give me answers, she gave me confidence.”
Today, Ximena leads onboarding in Mexico City and she brings the same compassion and clarity to her role that shaped her early days. “I try to make sure no one feels lost,” Ximena said. “I know how much it matters to feel seen and supported from day one.”
“Since coming to Capital One, I’ve improved not just professionally, but also personally,” Ximena said. “I feel more confident.”
Sharpening skills and building confidence
While her role is focused on creating an environment of support and learning for others, Ximena continues to invest in her own growth with the help of Capital One’s career resources.
Like many associates, Ximena takes advantage of Capital One’s online learning opportunities that offer instructor-led and self-paced classes where associates can sharpen their technical and professional skills, from AWS Cloud Bootcamps to workshops on how to deliver compelling, effective presentations.
She collaborates across departments, from Tech and Risk to Security and Finance, to identify learning needs across Mexico City. The collaborative approach pushes her curiosity even further as she works with associates who come from all across Latin America.
“You never stop learning here,” she said. “I’m picking up new perspectives all the time.”

Investing in people to build the future
Ximena’s love for learning is rooted in a desire to grow alongside people who care. That’s why Capital One’s values and culture resonate so deeply with her.
“To change banking for good, you have to invest in people,” she said. “Capital One invests in us, not just in our roles, but in our personal passions and professional growth.”
For Ximena, that’s what makes it meaningful—having the chance to create impact and do great work every day. She’s creating space for people to thrive and grow, just like she does.
