As a Principal Associate in Capital One’s Enterprise Services Risk Office (ES Risk, first line of defense), you will be on the forefront of enabling our business partners to efficiently and effectively deliver strategic change initiatives while ensuring that risks are appropriately identified and mitigated. Specifically, in this position, you will collaborate closely with associates and senior leaders across all lines of defense, Lines of Business, and other risk management teams to ensure compliance of business processes and controls with new laws and regulations, and maintain ongoing compliance with existing regulations.
The ideal candidate is an analytical thinker that has the ability to manage competing priorities, collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to gain consensus, communicate effectively in a cross-functional organization, facilitate constructive problem-solving to achieve objectives and remove roadblocks, and identify opportunities for automating existing processes.
Responsibilities:
Work with other Requirement Change Associates to track, coordinate, and report on a high volume of regulatory and non-regulatory requirement changes.
Perform independent reviews of requirement applicability and associated controls across ES lines of business (e.g., digital products and services, emerging payments, facilities, procurement, external affairs, Capital One Software, Capital One Ventures, technology, international talent expansion, risk, and brand, collectively called “Business”) to ensure compliance with new and existing regulations.
Partner and actively participate with the 1st line controls testing team to review business and technology controls during the test of design phase to ensure the controls mitigate the risks of existing requirement applicability.
Review and analyze impact to requirement risk when business and technology controls are modified or deleted.
Suggest replacement controls when existing law and regulations do not have a sufficient control suite to mitigate the risks of the requirements.
Drive implementation of changes in process and controls necessary to ensure compliance with changes in laws and regulations.
Identify and drive automation of requirement risk and governance processes and reporting to create efficiencies.
Support and lead cross-functional projects across a variety of strategic initiatives, as requested.
Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting.
Develop and enhance documents (such as policies, procedures, templates, and job aids) processes, and tools.
Use strong verbal and written skills to communicate with key partners in ES Risk, Compliance, and the Business.
Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent Certification
At least 3 years of experience in legal, requirement compliance, audit, or risk
At least 3 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients
At least 2 years of project or program management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience
At least 5 years of experience in legal, requirement compliance, audit, or risk
At least 2 year experience in data analysis
At least 3 years of experience in a client consulting role
Strong communication skills, including an ability to effectively explain legal and compliance requirements to a non-legal audience
Ability to influence business partners to prioritize risk management work
Experience in controls development, controls management, and reporting activities
Familiarity with financial sector requirement compliance practices and three lines of defense
Excellent problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively respond to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
Experience with G Suite, Google Workspace for reports, analysis, and presentations

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $127,500 - $145,500 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & AnalysisCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
