The successful candidate will lead our team of Content Marketing strategists within the Performance Marketing & Analytics (PM&A) team in US Card. The role will involve developing a strong partnership with our Business Analytics team to define the content marketing strategy, leveraging an audience-first mindset as well as adept data-backed decision making to optimize our content, testing and distribution choices. This role will also require seamless partnership with the PM&A Project & Process team to ensure our content production engine is well managed and enabling our content strategy through both prioritization & scale. They will be responsible for all content produced and the distribution strategy for that content including SEO for owned channels like the Learn & Grow content hub to testing expanded owned and paid channels to further increase reach to consumers in the moments that matter. They will be responsible for core content marketing metrics that contribute to US Card’s customer acquisitions growth as well as driving our company mission to empower consumers to achieve confidence in how they spend, borrow, save and plan.

What you’ll do:

  • Strategic Leadership:Develop audience-first content strategies for a near to mid-term roadmap that grows value for U.S. Consumer Card across the funnel

    • Identify opportunities for audience growth on new channels (owned/paid), new formats, new audience personas, etc.

    • Consistently stay ahead of emerging trends in Content Marketing and the channels supported by the team, particularly how AI can be leveraged to advance Content Marketing while also shifting consumer behavior or distribution channel dynamics

    • Manage the development of a test & learn agenda to improve conversion and UX on our Learn & Grow content hub in partnership with BA team

  • Oversight of day-to-day Content Marketing editorial strategy and execution including planning for deployment of assets across both owned properties like the Learn & Grow content hub and partner platforms as needed - you are the master architect for cross-channel programming 

    • Ensure that all content created is (1) consistent with all other content, (2) carries a distinctive POV appropriate for the audience and format, and (3) intentionally either meets or exceeds alternative content options available to the audience

    • Manage our SEO agency and other agency partners as needed in audience and keyword research, strategic planning, creative strategy and execution

    • Leverage a data and a hypothesis-driven mindset to deeply understand content performance and enable a productive feedback loop that generates new content ideas and refinements (and adjustments to the strategy for a given audience)

  • Partner with Process/Project Management team as well as Brand Creative to get to destination state content creation & publishing scale and process, helping to continue to raise the bar on being well managed and audit ready

  • Work closely with colleagues in Enterprise Tech to ensure we have the capabilities needed to run a modern content marketing program (e.g., modular components, advanced CMS, personalization technology, advanced web CRO testing techniques)

Who you are:

  • Demonstrates a deep understanding and commitment to understanding audience needs and turning them into a data-backed, evidence-based strategy

  • A track record of success and understanding of content marketing strategic planning processes, levers for growth and production practices across multiple Content Marketing mediums, channels, and objectives

  • A working knowledge of analytics platforms for website and search, creative development processes, and editorial strategy

  • Strategic & analytic orientation with the ability to make data-backed strategic decisions, complementing conceptual thinking skill with strong quantitative orientation

  • Thorough understanding of publishing best practices across multiple formats and platforms including websites, search, social, email and sponsored content

  • Well-versed in the digital media landscape including familiarity with MarTech tools required to enable all aspects of audience development

  • Ability to identify relevant KPIs across the funnel and establish a plan to achieve goals

  • Strong communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills 

  • Proven ability to work in ambiguity to build a long term vision and roadmap and inspire immediate teams and partners to deliver short term results while working towards a long term destination state

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 4 years of experience in planning, executing, and analyzing marketing programs

  • At least 4 years of experience in leading cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's of Business Administration

  • 2+ years of experience in Content Marketing strategy and production

  • 4+ years of experience working with SEO, SEM, Social, and Web analytics and testing

  • 2+ years working in Financial Services marketing

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $170,800 - $194,900 for Sr. Manager, Marketing


Richmond, VA: $155,300 - $177,200 for Sr. Manager, Marketing










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
