Within GWS, our Global Security Operations Center (GSOC), or as we call it, Sentry, is the heart of our physical security function, operating around the clock to ensure proactive monitoring, analysis, and response to security incidents. That’s why our team is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Sentry Operations.
The Sentry Operations Center Director will strengthen our capabilities to detect, deter, and respond to threats effectively. They will oversee multiple security operations centers across the footprint that monitor and manage physical security incidents 24/7. This role requires a seasoned security leader who combines operational expertise with strategic vision to optimize GSOC processes, maintain high levels of situational awareness, drive continuous improvement, and develop talent to their full potential.

Inspire diversity of thought among stakeholders at all levels and regularly build buy-in for strategic initiatives
Proactively pull teams together, identifying and mobilizing others towards long-term destination, influencing others to exceed expectations
Demonstrate strong execution skills with the ability to negotiate, set, and deliver multiple priorities independently
Delegate appropriately and empower team to problem solve
Own group results, and skillfully manage projects, willing and able to make tough or unpopular decisions if it is the right thing to do
Communicate as a Senior Leader, tailoring messages to the audience and bringing in context from a variety of competing interests (reputational, business, etc)
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Excellence
Develop and implement strategic goals, policies, and protocols for the GSOC to align with the overall security and risk management strategy
Serve as a senior decision maker for critical security incidents, providing real-time direction and escalation as needed
Establish and execute protocols for effective incident response, crisis management, and emergency communications
Coordinate after-action reviews for major incidents, identifying lessons learned and implementing improvements to enhance incident response capabilities
Integrate threat intelligence into daily GSOC operations to anticipate risks, identify patterns, and enhance proactive response measures
Understand the business drivers, and associate culture of the enterprise and partner with relevant stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance, data protection, and associate protection are are in place
Assess and implement technology solutions, in partnership with Security Technology teams, including surveillance systems, alarm monitoring, access control, and incident management software to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
Continuously evaluate and optimize workflows, ensuring the team utilized best practices in monitoring, risk assessment, and reporting
Stays current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and threat landscapes, making recommendations for advancements in capabilities
Leadership
Fostering a high-performance culture focused on vigilance, resilience, and continuous improvement
Oversee training programs for GSOC personnel to ensure preparedness in handling a wide range of security incidents
Drive quality assurance programs to assess and improve team performance, including regular exercises, simulations, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) reviews
Relationship Management
Provide regular briefings to executive leadership on security posture and performance metrics
Establish clear communication channels and reporting mechanisms for sharing information with key stakeholders and senior leadership during incidents
Collaborate with external law enforcements and industry partners for information sharing, best practices, and trend analysis
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree or military experience
At least 10 years of experience in physical security operations, security command centers, or crisis management call centers
At least 5 years of people management experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s or advanced degree
Experienced with GSOC technologies such as access control, surveillance systems, and incident management software

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Chicago, IL: $168,000 - $191,700 for Director, Security ServicesCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
