Capital One’s MROf seeks an exemplary risk manager to play a key role in helping the MROf deliver on its goals.
As a Risk Manager at Capital One you will partner with stakeholders across the Lines of Business working with model risk policies, risk assessments, regulations, and processes. Specifically, this role will support the risk oversight program within the Model Risk Office which facilitates the completion of risk assessments and provides subject matter support to various control challenges for model risk controls. The ideal candidate must be able to effectively communicate and influence partners across multiple functional areas and levels of the organization. Strong data and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment are essential to succeeding in this role. The role requires a well-rounded individual who is comfortable adjusting their approach to meet unique needs across multiple initiatives within a complex organization.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage and execute model risk assessments (RCSA, PLA, Launch, etc.).
Develop model risk management guidance and support the first line with implementation
Provide assessment and challenge of business risk assessments at various levels
Provide subject matter expertise for independent challenge of Model Risk Office controls, advising on focus areas and assessing results.
Drive projects based on priorities, ensuring scope and timelines are met.
Identify improvements to streamline risk identification and mitigation.
Demonstrate excellent communication and partnership skills to manage, inform, and influence stakeholders.
Partner with other risk management functions to achieve results.
Support additional risk management controls through management and escalation.
Partner cross-functionally to achieve control program expectations and risk assessment requirements.
Draft assessments, data packs, and communications for risk assessment challenge to divisional risk officers, proposing focus areas.
Build relationships and collaborate across first and second line risk to ensure commitment and control execution.
Effectively coordinate multiple cross functional processes with enterprise deadlines
The selected candidate:
Proven track record in effective risk management; ability to quickly structure tasks and manage expectations.
Outstanding influencing skills to drive risk management initiatives and programs.
Excellent communication and partnership skills essential for interacting with and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
Clear understanding of model risk management frameworks and experience applying standards like OCC Bulletin 2011-12 and FRB SR 11-7.
Ability to creatively problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
Capable of managing multiple initiatives and responsibilities simultaneously.
Ability to apply effective judgement, understand risks associated with assessments, and utilize influence to challenge or escalate results
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or military experience
At least 5 years of risk management experience
At least 2 years of operational or model risk management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
3 + years of operational or model risk management experience
3+ years of experience within financial services
Experience facilitating or conducting risk assessments

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk ManagerCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
