Capital One Mexico City: Shaping the future of tech
When Javier joined the Mexico City team as a software engineer, he thought he knew what to expect working at a bank. Legacy code. Outdated systems. Slow innovation.
But within the first week, Javier realized Capital One isn’t like other banks—he was working on the latest technology with a top-tier tech stack.
Today, Javier is part of the Capital One Mexico City tech team, where engineers work on real-time data management, AI technologies, machine learning, data analytics and standardizing software delivery.
It’s a culture that fosters innovation for its technologists and product managers, who enjoy delivering the latest tech and products, all within a supportive and close-knit environment.

A bank that feels like a tech company
That culture of innovation is exactly what drew Samuel to Capital One. During his job search, he came across an article about how Capital One uses serverless technologies. He was excited about the idea of working on the cloud at scale.
Now he’s part of a growing engineering team that’s rethinking how things are done. He develops applications and creates the architecture related to loans and internal bank transactions. He feels inspired every day because he has the right tools and tech to support his work.
For software engineer Javier, his team’s focus on backend performance testing might not sound flashy, but it’s essential. They make sure that when a customer opens the Capital One app or makes a transaction, the response is lightning-fast, and they need the best tech to make that possible.
“We optimize the code so everybody is able to retrieve the information they need in an efficient manner,” he said. “That impacts a lot of people.”
Growth as part of the job
One of Samuel’s favorite things about working at Capital One? The focus on career development and growth. With the full support of his team and leaders, he earned his AWS Solutions Architect certification and continues to pursue new learning opportunities. Beyond certifications, Samuel represents Capital One at Mexico City tech events, sharing his passion for technology with the wider community.
He’s already thinking about how to pay it forward to the next generation and recently became a mentor to early career technologists through the Technology Development Program.
“I want to help new talent get started and feel supported,” Samuel said. “You basically build the place that you work in.”
That spirit of growth is also what’s kept Javier motivated from day one. He didn’t expect to find such a forward-thinking tech culture inside a bank, but what he’s found is a place where ideas matter and career growth is part of the culture.

Impact that goes beyond code
For both Samuel and Javier, joining Capital One is about more than building products, it’s about building products that matter to so many people.
“I love Capital One’s values,” Javier said. “We take care of people and make sure that things are done in the right way. That’s the kind of place I want to be part of.”
That sense of purpose is personal to Samuel. He’s always been a curious person and wants to understand how things work. He feels a sense of purpose in building products that impact millions of customers. And the learning and career growth that comes along with it is just an added bonus.
Looking ahead, both engineers are hopeful and energized about the opportunities for growth and innovation in the future.
“We’re just getting started here in Mexico City,” Javier said. “And the most exciting part is that we get to shape what technology comes next.”
