Sr Manager, Risk Management (Auto Finance)

Financial Services (also known as Capital One Auto Finance or COAF) is the auto finance arm of Capital One.  As a Senior Manager within  COAF’s Business Risk Office, you are responsible for leading a team of Risk Engagement Leads (RELs). RELs are mainly responsible for mitigating risk by managing and ensuring effective remediation and containment of issues that arise within COAF’s operations. In addition, this role works hand-in-hand with our Regulatory Relations, Audit and Credit Review teams to facilitate efficient regulatory examinations, audits and credit reviews.  In this role, not only will you lean into your analytical and problem solving skills by developing and deploying innovative solutions to mitigate risks to COAF, but you will also grow your strategic and influencing skills as you create and implement risk strategies that enable COAF to win in the market. You will help create order out of complexity and enable confident, data-inspired decision making.

As an integral member of the team, you will have a high level of exposure across the division and partner closely with senior business and risk office leaders, technology, compliance, legal, and operational risk. 

In your role, you will:

  • Lead a team of high performing risk management professionals charged with managing Issues & Events, Regulatory Examinations, and Audits & Credit Reviews,.  You will also partner closely with Vertical Risk Advisors (VRAs) to ensure controls are appropriately built and maintained to mitigate risk;

  • Develop a deep understanding of business strategies, products, services, and risk profile; 

  • Identify and assess the impact of the changing regulatory environment on business objectives and risk appetite;

  • Analyze data to proactively identify risks and trends and provide insights that support internal customers in decision-making; 

  • Support internal business resource planning by providing transparency to audit, credit review and regulatory engagements and commitments; 

  • Advise business partners on how to effectively maneuver through a complex risk management framework; 

  • Drive collaboration between the risk, compliance, operational risk, and other business support functions, such as legal and subject matter experts;

  • Ensure independent escalation of risk management gaps, issues, and concerns, including emerging risks and regulatory focus areas; and

  • Identify opportunities to improve risk management practices and develop solutions to perfect risk management, eliminate waste, and deliver an exceptional customer experience

Additional Considerations

  • For Litigation counsel of 5+ years, with experience managing complex litigation, this is a great opportunity to leave traditional practice to find a new use for skills acquired in a law firm setting.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification 

  • At least 5 years of experience in Financial Services or Risk Management 

  • At least 5 years of experience supporting internal business clients

  • At least 3 years of experience in People Management 

  • At least 3 years of experience in project, process, or program management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors, Masters Degree, Juris Doctorate, or Master of Business Administration

  • 7+ years experience in Financial Services or Risk Management

  • 5+ years of experience leading cross functional teams

  • 5+ years of experience in People Management 

  • 1+ years of experience with Financial Analysis, Econometrics, or Statistics

  • Risk Certifications (CRCM, CAMS, CIPP, ABA Risk Management Certification)

  • PMP Certification or Masters Certificate of Project Management (CPM)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Plano, TX: $155,300 - $177,200 for Sr. Risk Manager











Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
