Principal Associate, External Affairs Risk Guide, Enterprise Services Risk Office

The Enterprise Services Business Risk Office provides risk management support to several lines of business including: Tech, Enterprise Product & Experience, Brand, Enterprise Supplier Management, Capital One Ventures, External Affairs, Capital One Software (C1S) and Emerging Payments. External Affairs works to change banking for good by working with external and internal stakeholders to envision and create a world of great socioeconomic opportunity by advocating for an inclusive society, building thriving communities, and creating financial tools that enrich lives. As a Risk Guide supporting External Affairs, you will partner with colleagues to deliver results that have a direct impact on customer experience and implement risk solutions to ensure Capital One’s continued stability and success.

The demands and high-visibility nature of this position require an expert with a proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and who can begin contributing immediately.   This role operates within a dynamic environment with changing conditions and a core component of success is building relationships and influencing decision makers with grounded information.  As a Principal Associate  in the Enterprise Services Risk Office, you are the first line of defense to help ensure our Company remains well-managed and avoid unnecessary risk. 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the External Affairs teams in the development and execution of the risk management strategy and deliver on enterprise and team objectives.

  • Partner with the business partners to deliver on the identification and development of risks, issues, and/or mitigation plans to ensure the business implements needed changes and addresses areas of exposure.

  • Develop and help to deliver senior level risk management reporting and communications

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and leaders across multiple organizations to achieve strategic objectives 

  • Coordinate program-related activities and deliverables to ensure effective collaboration within the team and across stakeholder groups

  • Continuously look for ways to improve and innovate in our approach to risk management.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Enterprise Services process owners, process managers, and vertical risk advisors

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent Certification

  • At least 3 years of experience supporting and interacting with internal business clients across multiple levels

  • At least 3 years of experience facilitating and leading discussions across various disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree or military experience 

  • 3+ years of risk management, technology, or a related discipline

  • 3+ years of experience in IT Risk Management

  • 1+ years of Financial Services industry experience

  • 1+ years of experience with controls development, controls management, and reporting activities

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Plano, TX: $115,900 - $132,200 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis


McLean, VA: $127,500 - $145,500 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis


Richmond, VA: $115,900 - $132,200 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis


New York, NY: $139,100 - $158,700 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis


Chicago, IL: $115,900 - $132,200 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis


Wilmington, DE: $115,900 - $132,200 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis






Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
